I am thinking of moving job but should I be prepared to take a pay cut? Is this a bad thing for a second job - I am guessing they would ask about why I was taking a job with less salary at the interview? I don't think the salary is that important - I think it's more important that you are getting career development out of the job so you can then move up in the area you want to go into.

Fully agree. There are lots of reasons why a change of place is good for someone and the pay is not necessarily always the incentive to move. If the place you currently work is not offering you long term prospects or even an insight into the field you wish to work in, a move is very much worthwhile. The reasons for a change of job are easily explicable to the potential new bosses, who would probably respect a decision not based on financial gain.

Are you enjoying the work you are doing currently?  it would appear not if you are willing to take a second job with a paycut.  My advice therefore would be follow your heart and not your wallet.

Well to tell the truth no, I am not particularly enjoying it! A pay cut would be irritating and obviously I'd rather not have one, but I think there are some circumstances in which it's the best option!
