I just read an article that said on average people don't leave home now till they are late 20s - especially the male of the species!  I was wondering what people made to this?  I left home to study at university as did most my friends.  i found those that stayed at home were seperate to those who weren't sharing the real university experience, and post graduation the last thing I wanted to do was run home to Mummy and Daddy.  I wanted my independence.

I am 25 year old guy and after i finished university was broke so had to move home, after a few months of clearing debt and saving i decided to go travelling.  After working for 9 months i am now only beggining to have enough financial stability to move out!  Its not that i dont want to I just realistically couldnt afford it.

Come On Come On!

it is really not an easy world out there.  i can tell you about my side and then my brother.  i went to university and moved out, moved to london and have struggled to find my feet.  my parents were kind enough to pay for most my uni accomodation but after uni i was on my own and the financial burden is extreme, that i am now considering a move home or a change of city to allow me money to actually live. by contrast my brother stayed at home for uni, still loved him time there - even staying on to do a masters and it now about to move out with a healthy bank balance and the freedom to travel.

All I can say in response is read this latest proposal:

"Since it emerged last week that the government is considering dropping university fees for students who live at home, many students and parents have begun to wonder if going away to study is a rite of passage they cannot afford.

The idea, which would exempt students from tuition fees but also require them to give up their right to student loans or grants, will fill some parents with horror but could be an answer to the prayers of some students worried about accumulating big debts.

However, the National Union of Students says it has "concerns" that the system could hinder choice and force poorer students to study at home in order to avoid fees even though there is a better course or university elsewhere." (Julie Ferry, The Guardian)
