Hello all!

I'm just about to go into my second year of uni and I'm looking for some inspiration as to how I can make some extra cash!

I already have a part-time job during the weekends, but a lot of my friends are also doing other things like buying/selling on eBay, being promo guys/girls, etc.

Great topic!

I currently work over the weekends at Debenhams' call centre. For a student, the pay is pretty good at £6.60ph.

They're also pretty flexible in terms of applications for OT which helped me make over £300 extra during 'study week'.

Also, over the summer I signed up with Abi research as a mystery shopper which is great, as I get assignments once or twice a month. It doesn't pay well, however it is fun and you do get your expenses refunded most of the time.

Would be interested in hearing from everyone else's experiences making money!

Hiya,

I totally agree! Its a great topic, as I am always interested in how to make a bit extra cash. Next to my studies I work in a gourmet food shop a few times a week, which pays pretty well. In addition, I wanted something that I could control my working hours on a bit more. A friend tipped me to work as a rep for Milkround, and that is quite good actually. Its great to use your networking skills to recruit reps, and you actually learn a lot about online marketing.

I think its important to have some part-time job besides your studies, as it shows future employers that your are able to multi-task university and work. Sometimes the student loan just isn't enough.

Thanks rmanning - I've applied for Abi and they offered me an assignment for Harper's Bazzar, but unfortunately I wasn't in town!

Thanks fosky, I didn't know that you could be a rep for milkround? Is there a page where I can find out more? And is this online or outside rep (i.e. go to freshers fairs etc?)

Thanks Knowlton, Signed up with fixtheodds today - A few of my friends have made a bit of money with fixtheodds, so it looks promising!

Glad I could help.. I think you can find what you need here: http://www.milkround.com/employers/1/Milkround-Online/jobs Also, I bet if you emailed milkround, they could answer your questions. Your main task is to get friends etc to sign up at the site. So you could use social networks and so on to promote it to your friends. You get paid based on how many you sign up I think. For me its been all about using innovative tools, and I have earned some money out of it! Some extra money always helps being a student!

Financeadmin

There are sites you can sign up free and write for them. You get between $5.00 an article you write to $15.00. Topics most popular are debt, debt relief, local business marketing, advertising.

Thanks Knowlton - I'm already using fixtheodds, as are a number of people at my uni. In fact, I've made £92 so far! Hopefully I will make £150 by xmas :D

Also, a thankyou Financeadmin - Following your advice, I've applied with eHow to do exactly that, so fingers crossed! It seems all very form though - CV and everything! Haven't heard back from them yet, but do you know of any more companies that are seeking remote editors? That's definitely something I'd consider!

Just to throw something in to the works - focus groups. I've signed up with Saros Research and I've recently been along to one of their focus groups (which paid £50) for just talking about mobile phone gaming! The only thing, is that you can only do two per year!
