I took a brief look at the website and it says that it offers 1 and 2 year placements.  Is there the possibility to do a shorter period?  Say 3 or 6 months?

We offer volunteer placements from 1 week to 2 years and every duration in between. It is more a case of the time that you have available rather than adjusting your schedule to fit program durations.

To help you out, on the GVI homepage, there is an option to "Search for trips by...". You can choose your favoured Trip Focus, Region and Duration (there is a "3-6 month" option to choose from), returning the projects that fit your search.

Is it possible to tailor make your own programme?

Apologies for the delay in replying to this post, it was time for a holiday! In response to your question, it is not possible to tailor make your own programme. However, all the regions in which we work have a good range of conservation, wildlife research, teaching and community development. Also, our start dates are very flexible with start dates throughout the year. If you found you wanted to experience a range of different project focuses, we should be able to accomodate you on the ground in the host country (or countries).

Hi again Jenny (as I presume this is same Jenny as on the 'Cost?' thread!),

You can of course join different projects in the same area as long as start dates do not overlap, but obviously you would need time to get between two different projects. In some cases, you might be eligible for a discount when booking two projects and the same time. For more details on this I would recommend you speak to someone in the UK office.

We do offer some 'combo' options that can include up to 5 different GVI projects. For example, in Latin America, there is a 6, 9 or 12 month option to volunteer on our education and community development projects in Guatemala (where I am based!), Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Peru. This is obviously a great chance to see 5 different cultures and 5 different communities from a point of view that is far off the regular tourist trail.
