Come On Come On!

Ok, so we are all members of the public and when I am a customer then I expect good service. However, I have recently started a position which means I need to deal with members of the public on a daily basis. In doing so I have realised how rude and impatient some people can be. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I haven't worked with the public much but when I have, I have found some of them to be quite rude. But what can you expect; if you're working in customer service you're a "level below" to them! :( No matter how difficult it may be, try and keep up a happy, helpful persona at all times and don't let them get to you!

My advice would be to just take it on the chin. You will find that you meet a wide array of people with different levels of politness. Think about when you are a customer and information you are seeking is hard to come by, it can be extremely frustrating. Remain patient and deal with them to the best of your ability and any initial issues will swiftly be overcome.

Treat them like you would expect to be treated! The old saying holds true... whatever you do don't patronise or talk down to them.

I'm now holed up in an office away from the general public I a share your frustration, at times I hate the general public!!I have been on other other side before and like you was amazed at how rude and arrogant some people can be - epsecially businessmen in suits I found, always full of their own self importance!
When I am approached, say by charity sellers in the street, I always try and be polite and show a bit of mutual respect. Treat people as I expect to be treated!
