I was just wondering if there were any truth that having a tattoo in the wrong place (ie too visible) can hinder the job hunt?  I am desperate to get one on my neck and nuckles but my parents are advising me against it...

As much as appearance shouldn't have an effect I think sadly this would do. It's just not a "professional" look and people may get the wrong idea. A tattoo which isn't visible would be fine but one as visible as on the neck or knuckles is going to be a bit risky.

Don't do it. Even a lip or eyebrow piercing makes interviewers twitch especially if the role involves f2f client visits.

I wouldn't do it either. It is not a risk I would take if I were you, especially as most jobs today require some F2F. What industry are you looking getting in to?

A friend of mine had to remove his eyebrow and tongue piercing when he started his first job, and tattooes.. well they are as well all know extremely hard and expensive to remove.

I agree, whether it is fair or not employers make instant judgments when they see visible tattoos/piercings at interviews. I would avoid it if I were you, unless you don't want a career in any sort of white collar job.
