Hi there,

I'm thinking about applying for a job on here which askes for a cv to apply but there is no mention of sending a cover letter or any kind of communication describing why I want the job. Should I send off a cover letter anyway? Is it good practice/expected or has the company deliberately excluded the provision of a cover letter?

Any thoughts?

Hi,

If it is a standard application process where they have asked for a CV application by e-mail or by post I think it is always good practice to send a well thought out and carefully planned covering letter with it. Your CV gives a lot of details about your experience but your cover letter if done well should really demonstrate that your own skills match the ones that they require for their specific role. Covering letters are useful to show that you've really reflected on the advert and carefully considered your suitability for the role.

If it's an online application form and they haven't provided an option to upload a covering letter then the chances are all the information required is covered in the questions they ask you.

Hope that helps?
