Hi im about to begin 2nd yr of a Mathematics degree and I want to go on to do a PGCE (secondary). A friend advised me that I should look into a pupil mentoring scheme, or even seek time in a school as a support to enhance my application. However, at my university there is already a voluntary student tutoring programme established. For the programme you have to spend a few hours a week with pupil or a few pupils in the age bracket of your choice. The tutoring is to small groups and quite personal. Do you think this scheme is more valuable or less than the aforementioned options?
