You may feel there is no need for you to any longer be constantly checking jobsites for the latest vacancies. Perhaps you have been settled with your present company for some time now and are enjoying the work. Maybe you have just received a promotion, or a pay rise, in appreciation of your good work. You are thinking that you are on to a winner with no need to go searching for vacancies elsewhere.
If you are in such a position – congratulations, you have clearly demonstrated an aptitude for your work and a determination to succeed in the workplace. Yet it would be a serious mistake to not keep at least one eye on the recruitment market. If you are at all ambitious you will realise that you can never know where the next opportunity might come from. You might feel that your current conditions cannot be bettered but how can you know?
Remember that one of the best tactics negotiating a pay rise is to mention what the competition is offering. Also a vacancy requiring your skills may appear in a different industry. It might be an opportunity you would never have considered, or better, it could be the stepping stone to even greater success.
