To get the most out of your Second Post targeted emails it is important to select the right roles and the corresponding sectors.
While it might all seem a bit confusing at first, using different combinations of sectors and roles gives you a lot of control over what jobs you receive or search for.
The key difference is:
Sector relates to the type of company you want to work forRole relates to the job role or position that you want to findSectorThe sector you choose relates to the industry you would like to work in and will give you a wide variety of jobs in that industry.
So you choose 'engineering' in your sector preferences, you will get engineering jobs. However, you will also get jobs for lawyers, accountants or any other position that an engineering company might advertise for.
RoleIf you want a very specific jobs sent to your email inbox then you should focus on selecting you preferred 'roles'. Of course there are marketing positions in all types of company from high street retail outlets to big IT firms, so leaving your sectors blank will allow you to see the whole spectrum of job types from a whole range of companies.
Combining Roles & SectorsExample - Julia is a lawyer and she'd love to work for a publisher or a production company. She also wouldn't mind working for a high street shopping chain or a charitable organisation. So, she selects role type 'legal' and the sectors 'media', 'retail' and 'charity / non-profit'. Now she'll only receive legal jobs in these types of companies.
If you're still not sure then a good rule of thumb is to stick to selecting the roles you are interested in!
