If you experienced particularly bad Monday morning blues this week then there is a reason. Monday was officially the most depressing day of the year.
‘Blue Monday’ was first calculated by Welsh psychologist Cliff Arnall by developing an equation which takes into account the weather, debt, time since Christmas, time since failing our New Years Resolutions, low motivational levels and the feeling of a need to take action. The combination of these factors can leave a lot of us feeling miserable and one side effect may be finding it hard to settle back into our daily work routines.
However, Mr Arnall also claims that it can be turned into a positive by giving people the impulse to make some changes if they are fed up with the way things are going. One practical change could be moving on from your current job if this is one of the things getting you down.
Taking some positive action such as this can help to cheer you up and give you something to look forward to and concentrate on. As they say, a change is as good as a rest and it could be just what you need to uplift your spirits and get you motivated once more.
